PUBLIC NOTICE.

(Update 19 Oct 2021)

REDEVELOPMENT OF THE FORMER LUCAS SPORTS AREA.

  1. Local Residents will recall that a Scheme for the redevelopment of the former Lucas Sports Site was agreed in February, 2021 by the Brierfield and Reedley Area Committee following consulation with interested parties.

SUBJECT TO SUFFICIENT FUNDS BEING AVAILABLE THE SCHEME WILL INCLUDE THE

                         FOLLOWING:-

  • A barrier to prevent unauthorised vehicular access will be provided
  • A fence will be constructed to delineate between the new woodland planting and the Himalayan Birch beds. Birch beds to be mulched with bark.
  • A play area will be provided which will be enclosed by low level walls.
  • A figure of 8 paths will be constructed
  • Trim Trail equipment will be set in a grassed area around the periphery of the Junior football pitch.
  • Existing paths will be upgraded

  1. Unfortunately due to the impact of Covid 19 it hasn’t been possible to commence work on the agreed Scheme . However we now have good news!!. Representatives of the Reedley Hallows Parish Council met on site on the 23 August, 2021 with  Senior Pendle Officers which included Philip Riley the recently appointed Pendle Council Green Spaces Manager who will be the Lead Officer for this Scheme . Arising from that meeting and dialogue between Pendle Officers and Barnfield Construction work recently started on site.
  2. The site levels have been set at the height of the former Cricket Pitch on that side of the development. There is currently a pile of spoil on the back of the houses which is to be graded out. This will reduce the levels as they look out quite substantially. All the spoil piles on site are getting bulldozed towards the Crescent to ease off the gradient of the existing slope as it is currently very steep.

  1. Barnfield  Construction will create a new Junior Football Pitch and leave the surrounding ground graded out flat and seeded. The former Cricket pitch side is to be graded out, soiled over as required and then seeded. The land will then need to be left to settle for a while after that  work has been done before Pendle Council can start to do other work to implement the Scheme.

  1. The Reedley Hallows Parish Council will receive progress reports on a regular basis at their meetings . They will arrange to keep local residents in the picture.
